Reading Level 1 (G2/G3)

This class promotes vocabulary, pronunciation, articulation and comprehension in 2nd-3rd grade level readers. Goal is to increase comprehension and improve speed. Key ideas and story structure details will be discussed. Be a better reader.


Reading Level 2 (G4/G5)

This class develops 4th-5th grade reading skills in comprehension and speed. Readers learn to understand the message of a work. Settings, themes, ideas, and character point of view comparisons will be discussed. Be a better reader.


Reading Level 3 (G6-G9)

This class develops the 6-9th grade reading skills. Vocabulary, articulation, comprehension and speed are learned through listening, speaking, reading. Some writing will be required in this class. Be a better reader.


Class Schedule/Overview:


1. Quick assessments will be given for the first session. Readings will be assigned and introduced. One hour of reading is required between classes.

2. Book and vocabulary discussion, key ideas identification, story structure presented. New reading introduced through listening skills.

3. Second reading analyzed with focus on key ideas. New reading introduced through chorale reading.

4. Third reading analyzed with focus on key ideas and story structure. New reading introduced through individual reading.

5. Fourth reading analyzed through key ideas, story structure, and themes. New reading introduced.

6. Quick assessment for progress and class needs. Fifth reading analyzed with key ideas, story structure, themes, and character point of view. New reading introduced.

7. Continued development through practice. Focus on details.

8. Focus on story structure.

9. Focus on themes.

10. Focus on integration of knowledge and ideas.

11. Focus on text complexity.

12. Quick assessment of ability and progress. Focus on text comprehension and application of reading skill.

About the coach: Coach Tanya has been teaching for over 30 years. Her education includes BS Political Science, CA Teaching Credential, BCC, BCLAD, Certification as a Professional Certified Coach, ESL, and Reading Recovery. She loves teaching. Please join her class to see what you can learn!

Class Time: One hour per session

Class Dates: 12 sessions

Homework: Around 60 mins after each session
