We all have stories. For millennia, stories have shaped the world in which we live. Whether it’s Homer’s Odyssey, or the “Taoist Farmer,” there is no denying the impact that stories--long and short, poetry and prose--have had on humanity. Stories cause us to reflect on our own lives and compel us to make life-changing decisions.

Hence, when we tell our stories, we have the ability to not only change our lives for the better, but we have the ability to change the world.

In this class, we will reflect on the experiences that have changed us, analyze writing techniques that move us, and compose stories that move mountains. 

What to expect regarding the workload:

Students will do daily journaling for the first three weeks. The last nine weeks will be focused on completing three polished personal narratives. These narratives can address a college application prompt, or they can be various experienced the students wish to express in writing. Students will have options as to what they want the focus of their formal pieces to be.

About Coach Katie: I love learning about international cultures, and I am thrilled to get to know each and every one of you. I am a firm believer that my students are just as much my teachers as I am theirs. For over fifteen years I have taught English: secondary English, ESL, and Adult Education English. I am also a songwriter and freelance journalist. Hailing from Flagstaff, Arizona, my home state, I enjoy outdoor activities, gardening, and making a positive difference in my local community.
